KEIJI HAINO, MERZBOW, Balázs Pándi live

A certain magic floods the room when free improvisers of the highest order get together to make music. And when said improvisers are also kindred spirits who know and can anticipate each other’s moves, a kind of wonderful telepathy takes over. Such was the case when enigmatic Japanese noise legend Merzbow (Masami Akita) got together with fellow countryman Keiji Haino and Hungarian drummer Balazs Pandi.

KEIJI HAINO

Stemming from the Antonin Artaud-inspired theatre milieu, since the beginning of the ’70s Keiji Haino explores such fields of music as psychedelic, improvisation, minimalism, noise and drone. From 1973 until 2013 banned by the Japanese public broadcaster NHK, he co-founded such ensembles as Fushitsusha, Vajra or Nijiumu, and has also collaborated with artists as varied as i.a. Peter Brötzmann, Derek Bailey, Tatsuya Yoshida, Pan Sonic or Jim O’Rourke.

MERZBOW

Merzbow (メルツバウ) is an extreme experimental music project created in Tokyo in 1979 under the direction of musician Masami Akita (秋田昌美) and is recognized as being one of the earliest projects in what has become known as “Japanese noise”. Highly prolific, Merzbow has released hundreds of recordings since 1979.

BALÁZS PÁNDI

Balázs Pándi is a Hungarian drummer and journalist. He has worked and toured with various acts from all around the world including Venetian Snares, Otto von Schirach, To Live and Shave in L.A., The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble and Zu. He also played drums for the Blood of Heroes project. Since 2009 he has frequently played drums live with Merzbow, and they have released three live records together.

She’s produced music for Hessle Audio, The Trilogy Tapes, Boomkat Editions, PAN, Where To Now?, Timedance, etc and has worked with a number of producers and musicians including Kassem Mosse, Laurel Halo, Call Super and Lucy Railton.

With a background in visual art, she has presented sound and music commissions across Lisson Gallery, Somerset House, Outlands Network, Études Paris, Southbank Centre, Macval Paris, ICA London etc.

KONRAD SPRENGER live

About the computer-controlled multi-channel electric guitar: Konrad Sprenger explores rhythmic patterns based on the Euclidean algorithm, to evoke a kind of cognitive insecurity through metrical dissonance. Sprenger approaches the strings of the guitar as frequency generators, tuned and set into motion by various electronically controlled mechanical actions. The music relates to the insistent rhythms of Minimalism, Krautrock and Techno, and their shared focus on transcendence through propulsive, full-spectrum sound.

NACHTBOTE live

High energy fractal arabesques and endless light-headed dervishes from this Viennese constructivist & knife stabber Hanno Schnegg – beloved for his deepsea synth journeys with Raju Arara aka Rani Bageria on Antwerpen’s finest Ultra Eczema, his monikers Schnell & Schneller, and his selftitled cassette “Nachtbote” on SF Broadcasts, long sold out at source. Expect flesh piercing sawtooths, swamp wobbling sines & outer planetary triangle jewels melting down your subconsciousness into little hypercubes only to let it remodel again into one giant, heavy, white egg.

RAJU ARARA live

Raju Arara is the moniker of fashion designer, artist and musician Rani Bageria.
