Patrizia Ruthensteiner

Patrizia Ruthensteiner is a Vienna-based artist who works at the intersection of fine arts, performing arts and music. Sculptural, transformable and sound generating wearables which codetermine the choreography are an integral part of her artwork that is strongly characterized by it ́s transdisciplinary approach. Often her works are artistic attempts to envision alternative and yet unknown relations of nature, culture and technology.

She creates audiovisual compositions and collaborates with artists and collectives across genres as a costume designer, performer and musician. Her solo- and collaborative projects have been presented internationally at various festivals, venues and locations both in- and outdoor, such as:

2013 – 2015 she presented shows at Brighton Fashion Week and NY Fashion Week
2015 – 2019 she worked on the project ‘Magnetoceptia’ together with media artist Dewi de Vree (NLD), performances and exhibitions have been presented in The Netherlands, Brazil, Portugal, Israel, Estonia, Romania, Vienna and Bratislava.
2016 – 2018 her audio works have been presented within ‘Celebrating Women in Sound’ by WISWOS, Goldsmiths University (UK) and the ‘Colloquium on Space and Immersivity’, Fonoteca Nacional de México (MEX).
2019 she received the prize of the ‘Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna’ in collaboration with the ‘Academy of Fine Arts Vienna’ within the competition ‘Manifestations of Profane and Secular Power’.
2021 her installation ‘pennae’ was presented at the Kunstkammer / KHM Vienna.
2020 she received the BKA Start-Stipendium for media art.
2021 beginning of the collaboration with the megaphone choir ‘SIRENEN’ by Sylvi Kretzschmar, as a costume designer and performer.

As a costume designer she has worked with SIRENEN, SKILLS, MONSTERFRAU, Martina Claussen, Irreality TV, Saint Genet and many other artists.
