INSIDES: TREIBGUT

DUE TO COVID-19 WE ARE IN LOCKDOWN, WITH CLUBS BEING CLOSED. AS WE STILL WANT TO KEEP UP WITH MUSICIANS AND DJS AROUND, AND FEEL THAT DIGITAL STREAMS ARE IRRETRIEVABLY LACKING THE SOCIAL ENERGY OF LIVE MUSIC EVENTS AND ARE NOT ABLE TO COMPENSATE FOR IT, WE ARE LOOKING FOR CONSOLATION IN WORDS. IN THE END MUSIC IS A SOCIAL PRACTICE. INSIDES FEATURES VOICES FROM VIENNA’S ELECTRONIC MUSIC SCENE, LOOKING TO EXCHANGE IDEAS, FIND MUTUAL INSPIRATION AND EXIT STRATEGIES, ENTERING PERSONAL REALMS.

“Plants and the daily changes of the sunlight”

Hello, how are you?

I’m doing quite fine most of the time.

Where are you right now?

I’m in my room in my shared flat in Vienna. On my desk watching the courtyard.

Which sounds surround you?

At the moment it’s really quiet. I hear the ventilation of my laptop and from time to time cars passing on the wet streets more distant.

Have you been productive so far? What are you working on?

At the beginning of the lockdown i was quite productive and had lot’s of fun experimenting with sound in my room. This changed a bit and by now I’m having difficultys to concentrate for a longer time. Too little changes in my environment and too much computer/internet make me less calm.

But still I’m trying to have a bit of an working routine. When I manage to do something it makes me feel well. At the moment I’m mainly working on a catalogue of unique fieldrecordings from the Amazon rainforest.

And other projects that hopefully will take place in summer and autumn. If I can’t work focused I’m taking care of my plants.

What inspires you right now?

Online lectures from my University and conversations with friends.

Reading material you can recommend?

David Foster Wallace „Infinte Jest“. Even though I read it some time ago I wish I would have again such an absorbing book for these days.

To watch?

Plants and the daily changes of the sunlight passing through my room.

What’s your opinion on live-streams? You see any alternative ways to support the music community?

Personally I’m not really taken by live-streams. I’m happy if I don’t watch something through my screen. But I think it can be good for people to have something to prepare for. Also if the artist gets payed properly its a good support financial wise.

What are you missing most?

I mostly miss changes of my surrounding and having a schedule for the next day.

What will change you think?

My feeling is that there will be and already are changes for individuals but there won’t be extreme changes in the whole system. But maybe thats optimistic/pessimistic.

What is the gig or occasion you were most looking for, that was cancelled in this period?

I will have a release through „International Winners“ in June and would have liked to do some shows right after.

Are you still able to pay your rent?

Yes.
