INSIDES: TIN MAN

DUE TO COVID-19 WE ARE IN LOCKDOWN WITH CLUBS BEING CLOSED. AS WE STILL WANT TO KEEP UP WITH MUSICIANS AND DJS AROUND, AND FEEL THAT DIGITAL STREAMS ARE IRRETRIEVABLY LACKING THE SOCIAL ENERGY OF LIVE MUSIC EVENTS AND ARE NOT ABLE TO COMPENSATE FOR IT, WE ARE LOOKING FOR CONSOLATION IN WORDS. IN THE END MUSIC IS A SOCIAL PRACTICE. INSIDES FEATURES VOICES FROM VIENNA’S ELECTRONIC MUSIC SCENE, LOOKING TO EXCHANGE IDEAS, FIND MUTUAL INSPIRATION AND EXIT STRATEGIES, ENTERING PERSONAL REALMS.

Hello, how are you?

Fine fine!

Where are you right now?

Vienna, fifth district. Mostly in the living room, but recording in the attic some days.

Which sounds surround you?

Records from my newly organized record shelf! I finally had the free time to clean up the shelves.

Have you been productive so far? What are you working on?

I have been able to finish some projects and in general find I am productive. I have done some songs for charity and release for Bandcamp. Other than that working on my next album and playing with writing Dub music for fun.

What inspires you right now?

Since everything seems up in the air, I find I’m listening closely to classic,“perfect”, and timeless records trying to figure out how to make something solid rather than of the moment.

Reading material you can recommend?

I usually like theoretical texts and fiction, but feel more connected reading biography and personal essay forms these days. Reading now … Esquire : Big Book of Good Writing, Studs Terkel : Coming of Age, and the Raymond Carver biography.

To watch?

The family shared their Netflix with me and I started with Tiger King, El Chapo, and the Chicago Bulls feature : Last Dance.
Previous to that we were going chronologically through directors whole filmographies : Jarmusch, Greenaway, Cronenburg

What’s your opinion on live-streams? You see any alternative ways to support the music community?

I enjoy some live-streams and do think they fill in some ways the void of not being able to go out and I like the community in the associated chats. I don’t have other ideas on creating income for the music community.

What are you missing most? What are you afraid of?

I miss parties and loud bass!  I’m afraid music and nightlife culture won’t come back.

What will change you think?

I think class division will increase and the consolidation of wealth and power.

What is the gig or occasion you were most looking for, that was cancelled in this period?

I had just started a monthly at rrr and there was a festival, Kontula, in Helsinki that I really was looking forward to visit.

Are you still able to pay your rent?

So far, yes. But, I’m not sure for how long. I got a grant from the AKM and Ksvf, but there are not more grants now to apply for. Also, as a “schwarzfahrer” there are no funds available. And no one is hiring.
