INSIDES: BOCKSRUCKER

Due to Covid-19 we are in lockdown, with clubs being closed. As we still want to keep up with musicians and DJs around, and feel that digital streams are irretrievably lacking the social energy of live music events and are not able to compensate for it, we are looking for consolation in words. In the end music is a social practice. Insides features voices from Vienna’s electronic music scene, looking to exchange ideas, find mutual inspiration and exit strategies, entering personal realms.

I’m alright.

Where are you right now?

At home in my room, 1050.

Which sounds surround you?

At the moment it is actually pretty quiet. Some pigeons in front of my window are mating so I am hearing this “gru gru sound” constantly.

Have you been productive so far? What are you working on?

More or less. During the first weeks of lockdown I had a very good drive, was creative and worked on a couple of tracks. Now after some time I find myself procrastinating a bit more often.

What inspires you right now?

My plants at home.

What’s your opinion on live-streams? You see any alternative ways to support the music community?

Hmm, difficult topic. To be honest I don’t really like them.

On the one hand I think it’s alright that they exist, on the other hand they bore me quite a lot – although I also have contributed with two streams. One of them was a live set together with my girlfriend, the other one was meant to be more of a listening session. No mixing, no club music.

If this somehow helps clubs/bars to get over this crisis I’m ok with it and it doesn’t bother me, but I think in some ways it totally fails the point and the concept of club culture.

Moreover, who listens to all these streams anyway?

As most artists/musicians get little to no money out of this Härtefallfonds, it would be great to come up with some other more supportive alternatives – like cheaper, individually customized insurance deals and/or longer accounting periods for self-employed musicians and the independent music scene. Or just the Bedingungsloses Grundeinkommen would be nice!

What are you missing most? What are you afraid of?

I miss the freedom to travel and I’m afraid it will take a lot of time till we get there again without any restrictions.

What is the gig or occasion you were most looking for, that was cancelled in this period?

I was supposed to play together with Flo Stöffelbauer (Heap) in Düsseldorf and Hamburg around mid of July.

Was quite hyped about that. Also, we had to cancel some events we had planned ourselves.
